CV:
I am a self taught composer and producer. I taught myself guitar to a high level and keyboard skills to an embarrassingly low level (thank heavens for midi!). I learned composition (harmony, counterpoint and orchestration) to degree level through studying Schoenbergs Fundamentals of Musical Composition, the classic text on twentieth century harmony by Vincent Persichetti, Henry Mancini's Sounds and Scores, Rimsky-Korsakov's excellent books on orchestration as well as studying any scores that intrigued me. I saved up pocket money for almost a year to buy the study score of Messiaen's Turangalila Symphonie!
I am a founder member of two bands, avant pop duo Cnut, and orchestral doombience outfit Regolith, and have performed across Europe with them.
With my current setup (Logic,Sibelius, Garritan Personal Orchestra, live instruments, midi controllers) I can produce recordings ranging from orchestral pieces to full band sounds and programmed electronic works, with the emphasis always on getting an unquantised, live and alive-sounding recording. I am able to write and record very quickly to a very high standard.
Although I have Sibelius, for recording purposes I prefer to write scores longhand, and play them myself through the Garritan orchestral samples, for a much more realistic and expressive performance.
Here is a chronological list of my "official" releases and activities - this does not included the many many performances I have taken part in, and probably the odd thing I've forgotten about:
